Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score by advancing the ball into the opposing team’s goal, which can be accomplished by kicking or heading the ball. The sport is known by this name in most countries around the world, though in the United States and Canada, it refers to what is known elsewhere as soccer.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The ball used is typically spherical and made of leather or another material. Players are not allowed to use their hands or arms to control the ball, except for the goalkeeper, who can use their hands within the penalty area.

The sport is widely considered the most popular game globally, with billions of fans and a rich history. Major tournaments include the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championship, and various domestic leagues around the world. Football fosters teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness among its participants and is played recreationally at many levels, from youth leagues to professional clubs.
