Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five players each aim to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket, which is mounted 10 feet high on a wall. The game is played on a rectangular court, featuring a hoop at each end. Points are scored in varying amounts depending on the player’s distance from the basket when the shot is taken—typically two points for shots made within the three-point line and three points for shots made beyond it. Players advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing the ball while moving) or passing to teammates. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Basketball emphasizes skill, teamwork, and strategy, and it is known for its fast-paced nature and high-scoring games. The sport is popular worldwide and is governed by various organizations, with the National Basketball Association (NBA) being one of the most recognized professional leagues.
