Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The objective of the game is to hit a ball over a net and into the opposing player’s court in such a way that the opponent is unable to return it. The game is played on a rectangular court that is divided by a net, with varying surface types such as grass, clay, or hard court.

Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the ball within the boundaries of the court. The scoring system consists of points, games, sets, and matches, with a typical match played in a best-of-three or best-of-five set format. Players use a racket to strike the ball, and the sport emphasizes agility, coordination, and strategic shot placement.

Tennis is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is played at various levels, from recreational to professional, with prestigious tournaments like the Grand Slam events—Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open—being among the most recognized in the sport.
